Caring for Your Plasma Television Set – 6 Vital Tips

Every year, more and more people are buying plasma TVs which is well and good, but what bothers me is that some folks never seem to bother to take care of their TV. Sure, in the beginning, a brand new plasma TV would produce top-notch picture quality with sharp, crisp colors and top-notch clarity that are super easy on the eyes. The sheer quality of the picture makes for a totally enjoyable viewing experience.

However, if you do not take the time to learn how to properly care for your plasma TV, its lifespan will certainly diminish. Pretty soon the picture will get dimmer and dimmer, therefore impairing your viewing experience. So let’s start learning how to take care of our plasma TV shall we? The screen isn’t really hard to maintain and we’ll get our money’s worth if we’re able to maximize the TV’s lifespan. Now check out the tips below…

1) Displaying your plasma television on a strong foundation is a must. You want to make sure that the TV is displayed on a spot where it won’t easily get bumped into.  I’d strongly recommend that you purchase a sturdy wall mount for mounting your plasma TV. It’s a safe way to display your television set and it’s also affordable. Recently I bought a “Cheetah Mounts” TV wall mount for about 25 bucks.

2) Display the TV in an area that’s open and with good ventilation. This is vital for safeguarding the lifespan of the TV’s internal components.  Plasma TV produces plenty of heat so if you place it on a spot that lacks open space around the TV, the components will surely get roasted over time.

3) Don’t go overboard with the brightness level setting. You don’t need to turn up the TV’s brightness level if you’re watching it in a room with lower ambient light. The reason you want to go easy with the brightness level is because if it’s set to high, the plasma screen’s phosphor lining will get ruined a lot faster.

4) Don’t wipe dust and fingerprints off the screen using cloths that are abrasive, unless you’re interested in getting rid of the plasma screen’s anti-glare coating. Instead, you should use micro fiber cloth. This sort of cloth is perfect for wiping off dust, fingerprints, and smudges from your plasma screen. For tougher stains, use cleaners that have been manufactured specifically for cleaning plasma or LCD screens. Don’t just use whatever cleaner on-hand as you may wind up damaging the plasma screen.

5) Invest in a surge protector to prevent your plasma TV from being damaged by lightning storm. I know this is a pretty lame advice, but fact of the matter is many plasma TV owners out there do not own a surge protector. Surge protectors aren’t expensive. My 8-feet Belkin brand 6 outlets surge protector set me back for just $30.

6) When not in use, please switch off the TV! Some people like to pause a movie that they are watching or a video game, and then just leave the TV on for an extended span of time. You really want to avoid doing this as it will make the TV age a lot quicker. In addition, it can cause accidental burn-in, overheating, mage becomes dimmer, etc.
